Aspen SLM License Manager Network Requirements

aspenONE software utilizes Software License Manager (SLM) for licensing. To be able to use SLM, the following requirements must be met.

Aspen products communicate to Aspen SLM License Manager Servers using UDP communication protocol over the over Local Area Networks (LANs) or over the Wide Area Network (WAN)

Ports: You will need to have specific ports open bidirectionally so that the SLM Server can communicate over the network.

  • Port Number: 5093 | Protocol: UDP

Bandwidth: For the SLM to communicate over the network, you will need to have certain Minimum Transmission Unit (MTU) settings to be able to send and receive messages over the network.

  • SLM Server in aspenONE V9-V11 (RMS 8.6 and 9.2) has a dynamic MTU, and requires an MTU of about 700 bytes
  • SLM Server in aspenONE V8.4-V8.8 (RMS 8.5.3) requires the MTU to be set at 1432 bytes
  • SLM Server in aspenONE V8.0 through V8.3 (RMS 8.4) requires the MTU to be set at 7512 bytes

Ping time: SLM requires a ping of 300 ms or less, with 0% loss.

Network

  • Bi-directional Trust Relationship between networks
  • DNS (Domain Name System) resolution between Hostname and IP address
