Problem:
Sometimes, it is necessary to compare the current values of a tag with its previous (or future) values. This document explains the appropriate procedure for making this overlap using the “shifts”.

Solution:
In order to overlay the same tag with its current and previous (or future) values, a function called “shift” can be used in aspenONE Process Explorer.
There are three ways to make this comparison:

Option 1 - Insert the same tag more than once on the same plot (trend) and create a delay/advance between them:
1) Firstly, it is necessary to have the wanted tags in a trend. Then add the shift column by clicking on the highlighted item

2) Then enter the wanted time difference in the shift column. Defaults are always positive, but you can enter a negative range if desired

Option 2 - Build a dashboard with several trends and view the data for each chart at different times on the timeline
1) When building the desired dashboard, remember to turn “Private Timeline” to ON so it is possible to manipulate the timelines of each plot independently

2) Screenshot with the two trends evaluated in the same time interval:

3) To evaluate each trend in a different period, just select one of them and move the timeline bar

Option 3 - Use a dashboard, and to avoid having to manipulate the timeline of each chart separately, simply create a shift in one of the trends

Finally, it is important to understand the difference between a positive shift and a negative shift. When +00:15:00 is chosen, it means that the tag in question will run 15 minutes behind the +00:00:00 shift tag. When using -00:15:00, it means that the tag in question will be 15 minutes ahead of the tag with shift +00:00:00.
