Problem Statement
When creating a direct OPC connection on Config Online Server and try to test using DMC3 builder you may get multiple errors showing that the connection fails between the DMC server and the OPC server. This article mentions a couple of things that we have observed may work to establish the connection. Notice that some of these suggestions come from experience in the case of the Delta V system.
Solution
Once the connection is created, we suggest verifying the next things:
1.- Verify that the account that is used for the Connection on the DMC server is the same account as the DeltaV Administrator. We have observed that this is also a requirement that other products as CIMIO often requires.
2.- In the Specific case of DMC3 Builder verify that the RTE service uses the DetalV Administrator account to run. After changing the user proceed to reboot the server.
3.- Make sure to uncheck the tag name cache from the configure online server Edit IO source window. For some DCS servers, we saw that Tag cache sometimes consumes a large amount of memory and eventually impacted performance. So, you might want to keep an eye on that and disable it if you start seeing memory-related issues.
