Problem Statement
This article described in a couple of steps how to use the Scheduling function from the Test Agent for the Auto generation of Identification Cases.
Solution
The Test Agent feature is a utility that can be used for many purposes during the Step Testing. However, on this solution we will just frame the Case Identification feature.
Test Agent has two requirements to work:
AspenWatch should be collecting the Controller Data
The Controller should be on Calibrate or Test Agent
Once this is set up properly, you should be the Test Agent Panel on the right top corner of PCWS. Initially, Test Agent will appear OFF but if click on it and select Enable Test Agent Schedule, Test Agent will start working.
To Access the modeling tool, you can do it in two different ways:
1.- You can go to Test Agent > Click on the Secondary switch (Normally show Slice) > Click Advance
2.- on PCWS go to Model >> Click the Modeling Button
The main will show two options Identification and Model Quality. In the case of the set up and the automatic scheduling both work in a similar way, but for this article we will just check on the Identification case.
The set up an ID case, make sure that the correction option is Selected and then click on New
The window information will show some information that will need to be use for the case to run. Most of the information is similar to a what standard DMC3 case will require (Case Name, Ind variable, Dep Variable, etc.,…) More information about the general case information can be consulted on the help file.
To set up Automatic Case ID we will use the Scheduling function. First, make sure to select the Schedule Case to Run Checkbox.
When the Checkbox is selected, we will see a some parameters that can be used.
Schedule Start is the Starting time when the Automatic ID will be generated. Normally you will prefer the current time of a future time.
The Interval is the Time interval when the Case will be Identified. For example, you can set up the interval to have a new Identification every hour o every two hours, etc. The Max interval is up to 1 month and the Min is 1 hour.
The Repeat Parameter control how many time the ID routine will executed. The Minim is 1 time the Max is to Repeat Forever. This parameter Is really important because it will control how many Cases you will have Identified at the end (this is control by the Repeat action not the Interval).
For Example, if you Set up the Interval to 1 Hour and the Repeat to 1 and the Start Time is 10:00 AM. A New Case will be Identified at 11:00 AM (as per the Interval), but due that the Repeat is set to 1 you won’t get a new Identified case on the next times. In case the Repeat change to 2, you will a new case at 11:00 AM and the another at 12:00 PM, then it will stop the Identification.
To avoid that problem and constantly create cases you can set up the Repeat option to Forever and the Cases will get created constantly as far the Step Testing is ongoing. Then you can go back to the case, edit the case, and just uncheck the Schedule case to run or change the repeat to stop the automatic case creation.
