Solution

Before connecting the dongle to the USB port, you will need to install the dongle drivers so Windows will detect the dongle. Download the SLM version that your products will run or you can even use the newer version (if there is one) instead which we recommend. Download from our download center AspenTech Download Center and put onto the end user or license server machine that the dongle with the license will be plugged into.

To install the dongle drivers, follow these steps:
1) Have the SLM media downloaded onto computer.
2) Open the SLM folder and run the Setup.exe as admin

3) Click the Install and Accept the terms.
4.) In the Licensing Selection screen, Check the SLM Tools type that matches your computer's bit (32 or 64) . You do not need to check on both bits. Check the Shared Components as well. After you check it, all squares should be checked on including the dongle driver section.

5.) If you have a Network License (Uses tokens or have multiple users connecting to a license server), then also check on the SLM License Server box on top. If using Standalone, you can leave this unchecked.
6.) Complete the next step on the installation.
7.) Skip past the license file selection part as we need the dongle drivers installed first so it can allow the license to be installed later
8.) Complete the install and reboot machine

Installing the License File
1.) Plug in USB/Dongle into computer
2.) Open up the SLM application as admin and look for the locking info tool

**You can also go to file path C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\AspenTech Shared\SLM Client Tools and find the SLMLockInfo file there as well.**

2.) Check and see if you have a Description that says Sentinel Hardlock . If so, your computer, with the drivers, are detecting the Dongle/USB

3.) If you still get a license error when trying to run aspen applications, Double click on the license file to install (called something like lservrc_080_abc123) or run the License File Installer tool from the SLM to install your license.
