LNG - Designing and Evaluating the Performance of Air Coolers and LNG Heat Exchangers

In this hands-on workshop, you will use Aspen HYSYS and its integration with Aspen Exchanger Design & Rating to perform the design and rating calculation of air-cooled and LNG heat exchangers and perform some parametric studies using Aspen Simulation Workbook.

Audience:

  • Engineers who specify, design or rate, and/or analyze Air Coolers and LNG Exchangers
  • Heat transfer experts who wish to use Aspen Exchanger Design & Rating
  • Engineers interested in evaluating the performance of LNG Exchangers

  • Level:

    Workshop

Approach

  • Hands-on workshop using AspenTech software
  • Guided demonstrations
  • Learn about rating calculations  for crude air coolers and LNG exchangers
  • Learn to harness the power of Activated EDR in Aspen HYSYS
  • Study the effects of heat exchanger fouling in the performance of crude preheat trains
  • Learn how to rigorously simulate an air-cooled condenser and an LNG exchanger
  • Learn to perform parametric studies using EDR/ASW integration

Tasks

  • Design a plate fin exchanger: Extract process data from the simulator and obtain a rigorous design with Aspen Exchanger Design and Rating
  • Rating calculation of an air-cooled exchanger: Use the Aspen HYSYS case study feature to examine how fouling affects the performance of a heat exchanger and downstream equipment
  • Perform a parametric study of an air-cooled exchanger: Use Aspen Simulation Workbook to setup a parametric study of changing air intake temperatures
  • Investigate the effect of composition on the performance of an LNG exchanger: Change the composition of the feed stream to see the effect on the LNG exchanger's duty

Pre-requisites

You should be familiar with Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Simulation Workbook and Aspen Exchanger Design & Rating.

Subsequent Courses

  • EHY101: Aspen HYSYS: Process Modeling
  • EHX1011: Design and Rate Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers
