Reboilers - Designing and Troubleshooting Thermosiphon Reboilers

In this hands-on workshop, you will use Aspen Exchanger Design & Rating and its integration with Aspen Plus & Aspen Simulation Workbook to rigorously design and simulate a thermosiphon reboiler, explore the impact of changing operating conditions and troubleshoot an existing piece of equipment.

Audience:

  • Engineers interested in the design of thermosiphon reboilers
  • Heat transfer experts who wish to use Aspen Exchanger Design & Rating
  • Engineers interested in troubleshooting existing thermosiphons

Training Details

  • Course Id:

    EHX903

  • Duration:

    0.5 day(s)

  • CEUs Awarded:

    0.4

  • Level:

    Workshop

Approach

  • Hands-on workshop
  • Review thermosiphon reboiler fundamentals
  • Learn the workflow to generate a thermosiphon design
  • Learn how to enter detailed pipework
  • Study the performance of a thermosiphon reboiler
  • Learn how to interpret results and troubleshoot and existing thermosiphon

Tasks

  • Vertical tubeside thermosiphon design: Extract process data from the simulator and obtain a rigorous design with Aspen Exchanger Design and Rating
  • Simulating a thermosiphon reboiler: Enter the detailed pipework for the thermosiphon circuit and perform a rigorous simulation
  • Performing a parametric study: Use ASW/EDR integration to evaluate the thermosiphon at different flowrates according to a forecast
  • Thermosiphon troubleshooting: Troubleshoot an existing thermosiphon exchanger that is operating unstably

Pre-requisites

You should be familiar Aspen Plus, heat transfer fundamentals and Aspen Exchanger Design and Rating.
