Aspen DMC3 Refresher Course and Aspen DMC3 User Certification

This is a refresher course for Aspen DMC3 fundamentals and designed for participants who are preparing to take the Aspen DMC3 User Certification exam. This version is delivered virtually through a 4-hrs online instructor-led session with access to virtual training lab for self-practices. Certification exam will be held on the next day.

Pre-requisites

  • A background in chemical/process engineering, oil/gas industry, or in petroleum refining. 
  • Engineers who has one-year (or more) experience in using DMC3 Builder or had attended APC105.
  • Computer with Internet access, webcam and audio capabilities. During the online certification, participants will be required to turn on their webcam.

Day 1 – Morning (0900H – 1300H): 

Getting Started
  • Introduce the basic concepts of Aspen APC
  • Aspen APC controller and project overview
Modeling
  • Introduce the properties of Aspen APC models
  • Introduce the workflow of modeling and utilities to analyze and improve model
  • Compare the FIR and Subspace modeling algorithms
  • Workshop: Identify case models from a dataset, and assemble the master model
Configure controller
  • Introduce the advantage of SmartTune for Steady State Optimization, and the differences between traditional way
  • Introduce the parameters for dynamic optimization
  • Workshop: Configure the optimizer of controller with SmartTune Wizard
Handle the ramp
  • Go through ramp variable techniques, and how to tune a ramp variable
Calculations
  • Build input and output calculations to modify controller data
  • Workshop: Build calculations to switch tuning sets for different feed rates
  • Workshop: Deploy the controller to online
Sustained Performance
  • Introduce benefite and workflow of Sustained Performance
