Introduction to Aspen Demand Manager

This course provides systematic training in basic Aspen Demand Manager (DM) for demand planners. Detailed emphasis is placed on introducing and reviewing features and functions in Aspen Demand Manager including Data Management, Forecast Preparation and Generation, Plan Generation & Analysis, and Publishing.

Audience:

·        This course is designed for demand planners who need to create a demand plan based on DM model results; as well as for other stakeholders who would like to better understand how DM helps you boost the efficiency of the demand planning process

·        Participants will typically have at least an entry level knowledge about demand forecasting and would like to learn how Aspen DM can greatly improve and optimize the planning workflow

  • Recognize the challenges and motivation driving the demand forecasting process
  • Get to know Aspen Demand Manager (DM) and see how it can help improve your demand planning workflow


2.   Functionality Overview

  • Familiarize yourself with the Demand Manager GUI
  • Arrange and resize different screens in order to visualize key information
  • Create and save layouts
  • Change the language of the DM case file


3.   Data Management

  • Import data into the DM model
  • Distinguish between master data and transactional data
  • Classify attributes into different categories
  • Classify elements according to ABC and/or COV analysis
  • Define time periods
  • Examine data sets and aggregate them at different levels
  • Choose between different display types for Data Viewer screens
  • Change the view settings of Data Viewer screens
  • Apply filters and sorting to Data Viewer screens
  • Save views created using the Data Viewer
  • Modify data and apply overrides in Data Viewer screens


4.   Monthly Forecast Preparation

  • Learn about the workflow of a typical month in the life of a demand planner
  • Prepare for the monthly demand consensus meeting using DM
  • Go through the demand planning activities for a typical month
  • Update historical sales data
  • Prepare and condition the data for the generation of the forecast


5.   Monthly Forecast Generation & Analysis

  • Walk through the steps to generate a new demand forecast
  • Analyze the accuracy of the forecast through different reports


6.   A Typical Quarter in the Life of a Demand Planner

  • Review the budget
