Learn from Domain Experts!
Expert training combining deep domain knowledge with hands-on relief device sizing application AspenTech is excited to offer a brand-new training that combines Pressure Relief Analysis domain practice with application of AspenTech solutions. Jointly delivered by domain and simulation experts from AspenTech, students will learn to:
► how to define overpressure systems using Aspen HYSYS and Aspen Plus in accordance with API 520, 521 and 2000. ► Design single or multiple relief valves for all applicable scenarios in an overpressure system. ► Document the full overpressure analysis within Aspen HYSYS/Aspen Plus. |
► Process design professionals wishing to enhance their understanding of PSV design and sizing ► New engineers wishing to gain experience in overpressure analysis with Aspen HYSYS and/or Aspen Plus |

Pressure Relief Analysis Fundamentals and Industry Applications
Module Concepts and Background
► Define potential real world relief scenarios and use API methods to calculate (grassroots) or rate (existing) relief valve sizes • Grassroots = brand new equipment on plant site • Existing = existing plant site and equipment ► Determine the design basis for each piece of equipment and assess applicable scenarios to determine the controlling scenario. ► Calculate the required relief device size based on the finalized design basis and appropriate API methods in industry. ► Detailed design aspects pertaining to relief valve inlet and outlet piping systems are not covered in this module. ►Describe the overpressure analysis documentation to support the quality process ► Describe the difference between different types of devices including PSVs, PRVs, PVRVs and ERVs.
Module Lessons • Skill 1: Define the applicable relief overpressure scenarios • Skill 2: Use tools to calculate relieving rates • Skill 3: Select the relief device per standards • Skill 4: Quality self-check the Overpressure results
Introduction to Pressure Relief Devices (PRD) and the Safety Analysis Environment
► Getting Started • Workshop # 1: Getting Started with the Safety Analysis Environment • Configuration of Pressure Safety Valves (PSV) • Workshop # 2: Setup of an Overpressure Analysis ► Configuration of Emergency Scenarios • Workshop # 3: Analyzing Applicable Emergency Scenarios ► Fire Scenario • Workshop # 4: Calculate the Required Relief Load for a Fire Scenario
