Mastering Reservoir Performance: Advanced Appraisal, Prediction, and Optimization Workflows

Unlock the full potential of reservoir management with this comprehensive training designed for professionals seeking to enhance their skills in cutting-edge subsurface workflows. Dive into advanced methodologies, from predictive modeling of reservoir performance using uncalibrated simulator decks to powerful proxy-based and ensemble smoother history-matching techniques.

Gain hands-on expertise in diagnostic tools, including quality tables, modifier distributions, pairs plots, and MCMC chain analysis, to identify and mitigate uncertainties. Explore future prediction workflows to assess reservoir behavior under multiple development scenarios and discover optimization strategies that maximize net present value (NPV) through refined reservoir model adjustments.

Audience:

This training is perfect for reservoir engineers, geoscientists, and decision-makers.

Agenda

In this course, users will progress through a series of comprehensive exercises to perform history matching, prediction, uncertainty, and optimization workflows using Aspen Tempest ENABLE. Following topics will be covered:

  • Appraisal Workflow (predicting field (or well or reservoir) output such as cumulative oil production using a simulator deck that has not been calibrated using a history matching process.
  • History Matching Workflow (Proxy based).
  • Diagnostic techniques (Quality tables/plots, modifiers and qualities, modifier distributions, pairs plot, MCMC chains, sensitivities, Diagonal plots,…)
  • Prediction Workflow (a workflow that involves the reservoir simulator runs continue past the end of the history period, running into the future – No further activity and multiple development scenarios).
  • Optimisation Workflow (the process of changing aspects of the reservoir model that are under human control to optimize a particular production outcome, for example, the total cumulative oil production for a field. This is usually quantified in terms of discounted revenue over the life of the reservoir (NPV).
  • History Matching Workflow (Ensemble Smoother based).
